Cedars‑Sinai Medical Center – Flexible Laboratory Renovation (MEP Design)

Client: Cedars‑Sinai Medical Center (in coordination with HDR Architects)

Location: West Hollywood, California

Overview

Kundlas Consulting Group LLC provided the mechanical design and multidisciplinary coordination for a 23,000‑SF flexible laboratory renovation within the Pacific Design Center. Kundlas engineered lab HVAC and exhaust systems supporting fume hoods, biosafety cabinets, incubators, cold rooms, and freezer farms within challenging geometric constraints and low floor-to-floor heights. The solution included a custom VAV air handling system with chilled water and heating hot water coils, an air-cooled chiller and boiler plant integration, and redundant lab exhaust fans with high stacks to maintain safe containment and pressure control. Kundlas coordinated routing across adjacent building conditions and delivered constructable, high-performance lab ventilation that supports research operations and code compliance.
