UCLA Botany Building – LEED Platinum Laboratory Renovation (MEP Design)

Client: UCLA (in coordination with CO Architects)

Location: Los Angeles, California

Overview

Kundlas Consulting Group LLC provided the mechanical design and BIM-coordinated system integration for a 37,000‑SF, four‑story laboratory and classroom renovation at UCLA, including conversion of a two-level interstitial space into a humidity‑controlled herbarium. Kundlas designed custom VAV air handling with campus steam and chilled-water interfaces, a steam heat exchanger system for heating hot water generation, laboratory exhaust with high stacks and fast-acting control valves for fume hoods and biosafety cabinets, and a humidity control strategy maintaining tight top-and-bottom ranges for sensitive collections. Kundlas coordinated systems to high BIM levels of detail to support clash-free installation and LEED Platinum performance goals.
